If you dont know where youre going; youre already there.... - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / If you don’t know where you’re going; you’re already there.... - Introvert Whisperer If you don’t know where you’re going; you’re already there. If you don’t know where you’re going; you’re already there. Having a goal helps to ensure you’re moving forward rather than backward.   If you haven’t figured out how life works yet, a universal principle is that you are always moving in a direction.   You are moving forward, backward or you’re being washed side to side as the winds of circumstances occur. You will like moving forward rather than the other two alternatives and the best way to make that happen is to know where you’re going. Granted, unexpected things pop up that will detour your plans but if you know where you’re headed, it will allow you to resume your course quickly. One of the things about goals is that we don’t always think through is the real end result we are trying to achieve.   It’s easier when there is a clear and easy result that can be measured like losing 10 pounds.   When it’s more subjective we stop short of really drilling down to what we are really expecting.   An example would be if I wanted to improve my communication. Communication is a broad topic with tons of aspects to it so if I left it there, who knows where I’d end up. That’s where most people stop; little wonder why we get so cynical about making goals.   We don’t hit them and it becomes demoralizing because it seems like a failure. So, what should you do if you’ve got some subjective goals? A healthy approach is to ask a ton of questions of you.   Let me use the communication improvement to show you what I mean. Feel free to use these questions. Where do I feel I’m struggling with my communication now? Or if I’m not struggling, where do I want to see improvement? It could be the form of communication like emails, phone or speaking in a group.   It could be with certain people or specific situations. What 2-3 things can I do to address the specific communication issue? Maybe a class would help or ask a mentor to give you feedback and suggestions on the aspect of communication you want to change. What would be different if I improved my communication? Keep in mind this is YOUR goal and since its subjective, you can at least observe what would be different.   Perhaps you would notice less confusion and a reduction of repeated explanations.   It could be less conflict between you and another person.   This is really defining your goals. How will I know I’ve hit this goal? I’d suggest setting up checkpoints throughout the year not only to remind you to put some conscious thought into this goal but to see if you have a new perspective.   Often times we gain a new and better insight as we pursue a goal and would answer these questions differently.   Its ok if you tweak your goal now that you’re a bit smarter. Yep, it hurts the brain to think this much but you’ll be happy you did. Go to top Do you know what your next career step is?   Many people don’t. Five Tips to Motivate Children with ADHD

Five Tips to Motivate Children with ADHD For parents of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), it can be very challenging to figure out exactly what motivates their students to study and complete homework. CEO Co-Founder Eileen Huntingtonof Huntington Learning Center says that parents should help their children get to know themselves as students and embrace techniques that work for them. While parents will find it difficult, if not impossible, to change their childrens behavior, modifications to their study habits and learning environment are far more likely to be helpful, says Huntington. To motivate children to strive toward academic success, she suggests these five tips: Establish good organizational habits. Nothing will hamper an ADHD childs ability to succeed like weak organizational skills. At a minimum, children must maintain an orderly desk and backpack and create a reliable system for keeping track of papers and making sure they hand in all work. Parents should keep an eye on their childrens organizational skills and work with them to make adjustments whenever needed. Follow a schedule. Time management can be hard for the ADHD student. A student planner with all test and project due dates is a must, but more important are the habits of using such a tool. Parents should help their children get used to estimating how long tasks will take and planning their time accordingly. They should also teach their children to pull out the planner at the beginning and ending of every class and record all assignments, due dates and other reminders. Write it down. Whether an ADHD student has a smartphone or a paper planner, its critical that he or she gets into the habit of writing down important things the moment the student hears them. Parents can teach their children to keep a pad of sticky notes on them at all times, make good use of the reminder function on their phone or use some other method. Having a master to-do list (in addition to a more structured schedule in the day planner) is a good starting point when students set out to create a daily action plan. Break tasks down. Learning to prioritize homework can be difficult for ADHD students. Its best to divide longer, harder assignments into smaller steps that students can assign themselves and check off one at a time. This type of approach gives students manageable to-dos, which discourages procrastination and is less daunting. Adopt the right study habits. Parents must help their children recognize the way they study and learn best and stick to those habits. Its important to remember that an ADHD students preferred study methods are likely different than those of his or her parents. This is fine and to be expected. The point is that children need to do what is most effective for them. ADHD students with strong impulsive/hyperactive tendencies might work best when pacing or sitting on a balance ball. Those with mainly inattentive type ADHD likely focus best in a distraction-free room. Its wise to test out different approaches and pay attention to what does and doesnt work. It can be a challenge to find ways to successfully motivate children with ADHD, butHuntington reminds parents that establishing good routines is key. It takes practice for children with ADHD to stay on top of established habits, but with diligence, these students will be successful, she says. With each small accomplishment, they feel good about what they have achieved and motivated to sustain those positive feelings. Jack of all trades master of none! - ALOHA Mind Math

Jack of all trades master of none! Jack of all trades master of none! Most parents would have used this phrase on their kids. How difficult do parents find it to get their kids hooked on to an extracurricular activity and then have them to master it. Children these days have a very short span of attention and easily get distracted, they quickly tend to get bored and want to shift or even sometimes quit these classes. As parents how would one tackle this issue? To start with listen to what your child thinks about his after school classes. Are complains like the classes are boring, teachers are strict, I am not interested in the class or simply none of my friends do this? Once you have heard them out the next step should be to interact with the other kids and their parents who take the same classes. Understand the teaching style and enroll the teacher in to help motivate your kid. Leverage on the Buddy system: Try to find friends who are taking the same instrument, and with the help of the teacher get line up your kid with a few of the fellow students who are motivated and doing well. Introduce a little friendly competition (No harm trying it!). Get involved in a positive way by listening to your child’s experience the class and make positive observation which in turn should encourage them. Always help them recognize that they will soon enjoy all the reward for the efforts and time they put in. At last remind your child that quitting a particular class may be a decision they will deeply regret later on. I am sure as parent after you have tried all this you have given your best shot here and the rest is destiny. Please share your experiences with us if you have tackled a situation like this.

Seven Computer Skills Your Child Should Have by GCSEs

Seven Computer Skills Your Child Should Have by GCSEs Building on the foundation established during primary school, secondary school students rapidly expand their repertoire of computer skills. Media classes are one opportunity to expand basic computer knowledge while middle school students will find themselves using computers and mobile devices in and for many classes as they advance toward high school. Both school supplied and personally owned computing devices offer practice and applications to bolster digital expertise. By GCSEs students should expect to have mastered or become more proficient with the following tasks and skills. Improved Keyboarding Skills Practice makes proficient and middle school students should take every chance to improve their keyboarding speed and accuracy. Students will be using typing for documents and communications, including emails and online classes or portals. Word Processing Students will be required to complete assignments using specific formats. The ability to set margins, tabs and use the broad range of editing and search tools within word processing programs or applications will be stressed. Headers, footers and page or section breaks will become routine. Expect homework or projects to be accepted online as a requirement or a convenience. Creative Digital Presentations Using graphics, animations, slideshows and videos will make projects and presentations intriguing and entertaining. Adding narration and music and applying a variety of visual details are ways to make final products appealing and looking professional. Saving projects to physical media such as flash drives or DVDs should become routine. Cloud applications may make physical saving unnecessary. Advanced Spreadsheets Improving on the basic spreadsheet functions learned in primary school, middle school students should be able to plan and design spreadsheets to display and compare date in meaningful ways. Spreadsheet functions will be explored providing many practical applications for the more complicated requirements of school assignments and even personal applications. Exporting And Embedding Spreadsheets Students will be able to design a spreadsheet or set of spreadsheets as part of a larger presentation or project. Graphing and other accessible ways of displaying data will need to be competently exported and embedded in documents and other presentations. Understanding Of Basic Web Design Middle school students will learn the fundamentals of web design, including using hyperlinks and inserting text, images and links onto web pages, perhaps of their own design. Classroom web pages or personal web sites may be created or maintained. Basic Understanding Of Platforms And Servers Grasping the rapidly evolving options of stand alone personal desktops, local servers and remote or cloud based services will develop, depending on the systems used by the school, instructor or district. Saving to the cloud and working remotely, including completing online classes if appropriate, will be introduced and mastered. Individual schools and districts will introduce these concepts on their own schedules. Personal and mobile device use instead of desktops may impact how quickly concepts are adapted and added. Expect much variation.

Houston is America`s Center of Energy, Aeronautics, Health Care and Education

Houston is America`s Center of Energy, Aeronautics, Health Care and Education Once upon a time being the deepest frontier territory, Houston has disrupted American history numerous times during its eventful history. The disruptions being the war with Mexico, the first oil gush at Spindletop salt dome, and the landing on the moon by Apollo astronauts. Amidst these stark events, transportation, health care, and education have grown steadily rendering Houston Americas capital of energy, health care and museums. The city is named after the general and president of the Republic of Texas Sam Houston. General Houston gained fame when he defeated the Mexican army under General de Santa Ana who had earlier taken the Alamo fortress in San Antonio, Texas. Despite being outnumber, short on rations, marching through heavy rain, Houston defeated the Mexican army in the battle of San Jacinto when he surprised Santa Ana during the afternoon siesta. Two New York real estate entrepreneurs founded the city in 1837 utilizing the PR potential of General Houstons household name. The city quickly merged as a railroad hub and shipping port for the export of cotton. In 1901 oil was discovered at Spindletop field near Beaumont. This event resulted in the creation of the Gulf Oil and Texaco corporations, now a part of Chevron. Today, the Spindletop-Gladys City has become a museum governed by Lamar University. In 1945 another economic watershed event took place when the M.D. Anderson Foundation formed the Texas Medical Center, which has evolved into the worlds largest research and health care institutions. More open heart surgeries are performed at the Texas Medical Center than anywhere else in the world. While primarily caring for patents the center also includes two medical schools, four nursing schools, a psychiatric treatment center, dentistry and pharmacies. The Texas Medical Center includes some of the finest academic institution, such as the MD Anderson Cancer Center, UT Health Science Center, Texas Childrens Hospital and the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. Houston is home to Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, NASAs center for human spaceflight. It became the heart of the large aeronautical scientific and engineering communities. The Apollo program to put a man on the Moon was chiefly conducted from here. On July 20, 1969 the Johnson Space Center achieve its greatest triumph when astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin where the first men to set foot on the moon. This event is beautiful depicted with life-size models and mock-ups at the Space Center in Houston a visitor center for   students, space buffs and the entire family. This museum also includes an actual Saturn V rocket the booster system that carried the Apollo astronauts and their space crafts into space. Or sit in Apollo 17s original command module. This exhibit was actually in space and brought the 3 astronauts Cenran, Evans and Schmitt safely back to Earth. More than 7 million visitors come every year to Houstons Museum District which is an association of 20 museums, galleries and community organizations dedicated to promoting art, science and history. Parents who want to create a sense of scientific awe and excitement should go with their kids to the Houston Museum of Natural Science. The skeleton of a fossil meat-eating dinosaur, a Foucault pendulum demonstrating the Earths rotation and an interactive periodic table of elements can be found there. Anyone who appreciates the beautify of art probably find the museum of Fine Art the place to be. The museums collections spans more than 6,000 years of history and 64,000 exhibits from six continents. A treat for parents and children alike. The Rice University Art Gallery is the only university museum devoted to site-specific installation art. Rice Gallery invites artists, architects and designers to create room-sized works of art that transform the gallery space. The gallery presents temporary, large-scale environments that visitors can enter and explore. The 112 campuses of the Houston Independent School Districts serve as vanguard schools, specializing in such disciplines as health professions, visual and performing arts, and the sciences. Houston-Galveston is also home of the Ron Paul Curriculum, a K-12 liberty and free market centered education, developed by former presidential candidate Ron Paul. The University of Houston is a nationally recognized Tier One research university and has nearly 40,000 students on its 667 acre campus in southeast Houston. Located in the historic community of Third Ward is Texas Southern University, one of the largest historically black colleges and universities in the United States. Several private institutions of higher learningâ€"ranging from liberal arts colleges to Rice University, the nationally recognized research universityâ€"are located within the city. Rice, with a total enrollment of slightly more than 6,000 students, is widely recognized as one of the top twenty universities in the nation, and it has a number of distinguished graduate programs and research institutes such as the James A. Baker Institute for public policy. Congruent with these many academic disciplines, Houston is home to qualified medical care tutors, pharmacology  tutors, geology tutors, environmental engineering tutors, mechanical engineering tutors, history tutor and science tutors. Having been given the name of a national hero, undergone periods of boom and taking   center stage of Americas landing on the moon, Houston today is the center of energy, aeronautics, health care and education. Truly a lone star among US cites.
